So I already told you about my inspirations and pattern picks for my day and night dresses. Also, I told you that my goal was to create easily wearable pieces that were appropriate for my lifestyle. I chose to go with simple silhouettes that would look great in various occasions.
My Day dress is an animal print shift dress made using McCall’s 6465. It is my third time making this dress.
This polyester sateen fabric have been sitting in my stash for 1-2 years. It is very soft but does not breath a lot. I would not wear this dress on a hot summer day! But it is perfect for Winter, Spring and Fall.
I am absolutely in love with the way this dress falls. It has great volume without me adding anything to the skirt.
I wanted to keep the whole look bright and fun. For this reason, I paired the dress with this beautiful pearl necklace. I don’t remember where I got it from.
For my Night look, I went with a similar silhouette. McCall’s 7407 pattern was used as a base. My initial thought was to create a soft flowy dress that could be worn on a date night.
This black velvet fabric comes from my local Fabricville store. I used the pattern from the bust up and for the sleeves. Then, I redrafted the dress portion below the bust to reduce the swing of the original dress. So this allowed me to go for a dress which has a less voluminous skirt. Next, I drafted a facing for the neckline. So I was able to keep this dress looking classy. Topstitch on velvet is not very common. Velvet is a stretch fabric and it moves a lot. For this reason, it would not look neat. Also, I did not feel that finishing the neck with a band would look as neat and polished.
I love the slit detail at the base of the neck. It keeps this whole look sexy. Instead of putting a hook and eye, I decided to hand-stitch a button loop and a button. Also, hand-stitching was used to put the hem in place.
For this look, I decided to pull my hair up on one side and I paired it with a black and red necklace for a pop of color.
I had a lot of fun creating these looks!
