Hey sewfriends!
Time to share with you the latest addition to my shirt-dress collection! This maxi shirt-dress is all I needed to properly enter into the summer season in style! Vertical stripes, a lightweight fabrics with a great drape, and a generous slit! All I needed in a summer shirt-dress!
I have a more detailed post on Fabricville’s blog, but I wanted to take the time to review M7682 here.
Pattern Description: Loose fitting, button front dresses have pointed collar, waistband with purchased drawstring, narrow hems, and sleeve variations. A: Patch pockets. B, C: Shaped hem, wrong side of fabric will show. D: Front slit.
Pattern Sizing: 6 to 22. I cut a size 10.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it looks exactly like view D
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes very easy to follow. I made it differently since I lined my dress.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern. However, the bodice is the same whether you insert sleeves or not. Since it is a loose fitting dress, the armcye on the sleeveless version was way too wide. I had to reduce it by 1.5 inches under the armpit.I do not like how the waist is hard to define with the drawstrng. I believe the waist band is a little too wide (both in terms of height and also length.
Fabric Used: Rayon poplin from Fabricville.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I had to fit the armcye since it was too wide. I chopped about 2.5 inches from the hem which is totally weird since it is a petite pattern and I am 5’6” ???
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I’m not sure I would sew it again. This dress took 5 meters of this 55 inches wide fabric. That is ALOT!
Conclusion: Overall, I love the finished product. I want more maxi shirt-dresses but they need to require less fabric than this one!

Misses/Misses Petite patterns are not petite sized. They have the lines marked as to wear to make the adjustments to make them petite.
Hi! Yes I’m aware of this. However, I am 5’6″ which is normally the height they draft for (standard) and it was way too long! So a petite woman will have to remove a lot from the length which is why I share this information!
