I took part in the McCall’s pattern Company shirtdress Sew-Along! And I am now officially in love with shirtdresses! I bought this Poplin fabric at my local Fabricville in 2 prints. I decided to use this yellow and grey print for view A of McCall’s 7531.
I cut view A in a size 8 and use the B cup for the front bodice piece. The instructions were easy to follow (easier than McCall’s 6891). It was a relatively fast project. I made a slight modification to the original pattern. I made the skirt shorter. I love this length but will do the next one using the original length.
I skipped on some of the edgestitching (on the collar). I do not own a edgestiching foot. I plan to purchase one soon so I will add the details later when I get it. I find that this dress is perfect for warm summer days. This fabric is light and allows me to feel comfortable throughout the day.
I really love this dress and is is a great addition to my wardrobe. I have a second one planned already that will be on the cutting table very soon. Originally, I had planned to do view D with my second fabric. I changed my mind after completing this one. I love how this hem looks on me and I need another one! When I do, I’ll put some pictures on the blog!

I’m in love with them too now… I was never big on shirts and shirtdress because retail ones look weird on me. Now that I can make them, I’m about to have an entire collection!!

Great job, girl! It looks smashing on you. You know, you don’t actually need an edging foot to do your edgestitching. Just practice stitching close to the edge. After you get used to it you’ll find that you can just eyeball it and get pretty edgestitching.
Thank you Carmen! I did edgestich the pockets in place and it came out good! I just know that it will make it easier and effortless for my eyes and neck which are not in the best shape right now!
