Let’s welcome Spring with another pleated skirt!

The sun and warmer temperatures make me want to wear skirts all day everyday! I ordered this beautiful Ankara Fabric from a fellow Canadian sewing blogger The Ravel Out (please check out her blog and tell her that I sent you!). She has a few pieces of Ankara fabrics on her Etsy store.

I wanted to make another pleated skirt and went back a couple of years in my pattern Stash. I chose to work with Simplicity 2413 view B. I bought this pattern at least 4 years ago and never cut into it! It was about time!

The instructions were easy to follow. It is a 3 pattern pieces project. The skirt front and back is the same pattern piece. Then you have the pockets and the waistband. It is a fast and easy project to work on. The only step that can be challenging for a newbie sewer is inserting the invisible zipper (Yes!! Nothing better than an invisible zipper!!). The zipper is installed behind the pocket on the left side of the skirt.

I cut this skirt in a size 8. I had to cut the waistband a second time because I’m not a size 8 on this pattern… I’m more of a Size 10-12. I got away with the skirt portion by reducing the seam allowance to 1/2 inch on the sides…

This error is a little pinch for me. I know that I should check the finished garment measurements prior to cutting my fabric EVERYTIME I work with a new pattern… But to be honest, I use McCall’s patterns most of the time and I always cut the same size (8). I have learned my lesson!!

Overall, I really love the shape of this skirt! And obviously, I will probably have more than one in my closet. I’m on a mission to increase the number of Skirts in my wardrobe!
